Arrival of the elephant seals to Valdés Peninsula continental colony

In Late August, began to arrive the first male elephant seals to mark their territory and to form harems, as they reached the female. Pregnant females are arriving a couple weeks later to the coast, and a few days later they give birth a pup. During the nursing period the mother is fasting and consume all their reserves of fat. After feeding and breeding season, elephants go two months to feed to the sea. At these moment there are just a few isolated individuals who are found. As days go past the October progresses, the number of elephants increases, up to form a dense colony in the line of high tide at Caleta Valdes, Punta Delgada and Punta Ninfas.

If you go to see these animals on the beach, please stay away from more than 30 or 40 meters, dozens of tourists, not informed want to take a very close pictures and stressed the animals and alter the animal behavior. We must prevent the animals don´t leave their places on the beach and go to sea.
