The Southern Right Whales, like other whale species, take their body out from the water being that behavior known as the Whale Jump. From our human interpretation the causes of it are diverse; scientists maintain that the whale jumps as a way of communication with other adults or with their calf. Some others also consider that the reason could be their try to take a look outside the water, although they see forms and distances, cause their eyes are adapted only to see under the salt water being improbable that the whale sees objects defined in the air surface. The other probable reason for the jump are the "ciamidos", its a small crustacean that in groups of tens could be thousands walking on the whale skin and callosities. Sometimes the ciamidos walk trough sensibles part of the whale body, as near the eyes, being really annoyance so by the jump the whale tried to remove them. The last years the sea gulls has developed a technique to eat the whale skin and fat itching their backs, so that could be other jump cause, again the Whale tries to remove something that is teasing it like the flies tease us, tiny but unbearable. The important thing beyond the causes of the jump, is that us are able to contemplate this incredile marine mammal of 40 tons removing 10 meters their body out from the water just with the strenght of its tail or fin. In this post you can enjoy photos of whale jumps!!
